BLOG ATTEMPT PART DEUX

I like kind of writing about hockey, so I decided to do it again. Just for kicks, really. I'm going to update pretty much whenever I feel like it.

Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite Sabres memories. Hands down, this was my favorite game I've ever been to.

January 18, 2008. My friend Lindsay got tickets to the Sabres/Thrashers game for Christmas, and since I had invited her to a couple of games that season and the season before when I got tickets off of eBay, she invited me to the game with her. Automatically, I know what you're thinking. "You've been going to games for almost two and a half decades, and your favorite game is a game against THE THRASHERS?" Yes.

First off, I hadn't sat closer than seventeen rows to the ice... ever. Well, at the HSBC Arena anyhow. These tickets were third row, but technically were first row since the first two rows were the penalty box. So we're already starting off solidly here.

Second, the Sabres couldn't put the puck in the net if you gave them directions and a map. I believe up to that point they'd lost something like six of seven and weren't scoring at all. But this particular evening, they fixed that issue. The Sabres scored ten goals, including hat tricks by Derek Roy and Drew Stafford. Two hat tricks! I couldn't remember a time where I had seen ONE hat trick, and now I had TWO hat tricks! The only thing that sucked is that poor Lindsay had a migraine, and I told her not to worry since we weren't able to put the puck in the net (or win- I don't think we had a win in the month of January 2008 up until then) so the horn wouldn't be going off.

It went off four times in the first.

Sorry, Lindsay.
